The letters come from Zhichu, the company's name. It describes its founding team as specialists with more than ten years each in cross-border e-commerce logistics.
Zhichu sells to online sellers rather than to shoppers, so a ZC number reaches you because a store shipped with it. It runs three things: international ocean freight, including sea-and-truck first-leg moves into Amazon FBA warehouses in the United States; international air lanes for small parcels, built on mainland China and Hong Kong flight capacity; and warehousing with pick-and-pack fulfillment for sellers who dispatch one order at a time. It names sellers on Amazon, eBay, Wish, Shopify and SHEIN as the customers those services are built for.
One detail explains most of what people find confusing here. In the company's own description of its United States small-parcel lane, the final mile is completed by USPS. So a ZC shipment that suddenly starts producing USPS scans has not been handed to the wrong carrier — that handover is how the service is designed, and the USPS number and the ZC number refer to the same parcel. Most ZC references begin with those two letters, but the length varies between lanes, so there is no single format to check yours against.

The line is operated by Shenzhen Zhichu Supply Chain Co., Ltd., a cross-border logistics company in Shenzhen, China, which moves the shipment out of China by air or sea. On its United States small-parcel service, Zhichu's own description of the lane says USPS completes the final mile, so the company that actually knocks on your door in the US is usually USPS. In other destinations the last leg is handled by the local delivery operator for that lane.
Because that is how the service is built, not because something went wrong. Zhichu's United States air lane is described as a combined model in which USPS performs the last mile, so the parcel is handed over once it has cleared customs and entered the US network. From that point the USPS scans are the live ones. Cross-border shipments go quiet in predictable places. The first gap is before the parcel physically reaches Zhichu from the seller; the second is during international linehaul and customs clearance, which can run for several days with no scan at all; the third is the moment of handover to the destination carrier. Movement usually reappears once the parcel enters the destination network. If nothing has changed for more than a couple of weeks, contact the store you ordered from — as the customer of record, only the seller can open an enquiry.
Most ZC references begin with the letters ZC, but there is no single format to match: the length differs between the air and ocean lanes, and some references carry a longer prefix. Because the United States last mile is completed by USPS, the retailer may also give you a separate USPS number for the same parcel — either one should return results in a multi-carrier tracker.
