AliExpress is Alibaba Group's global retail marketplace, where third-party sellers — mostly in China, and increasingly from local warehouses in Europe and the United States — sell directly to shoppers abroad. AliExpress is the shop, not the carrier. The company that actually moves your parcel is decided per order by the seller and by the shipping method paid for at checkout.
Most orders travel on AliExpress Standard Shipping, the marketplace's own end-to-end service run with Cainiao, the Alibaba group logistics arm that has worked with AliExpress since 2014 and describes itself as the world's largest cross-border e-commerce logistics network, handling over 1.5 billion cross-border parcels in its 2023 financial year. A parcel is collected from the seller in China, consolidated, flown to the destination region, cleared through customs, and then handed to a delivery company inside your own country for the final leg — the national postal operator in many markets, a private courier in others.
That handover is what makes AliExpress tracking confusing. A single order can carry one number issued by the consolidator and a second issued by whoever delivers it, and the two rarely look alike. Across AliExpress numbers checked on the 24hTrack platform there is no dominant format at all: the most common shape accounts for only about a fifth of them, and the rest spread across many different carriers' numbering schemes. A tracker that stops at the border makes the parcel look lost, when in fact the journey continues under the local company's scans.

There is no single AliExpress format, and that is the accurate answer rather than an evasive one. AliExpress is a marketplace, so your number was issued by whichever company the seller shipped with — a consolidator, a postal operator, or a courier — and each uses its own scheme. On AliExpress numbers checked through the 24hTrack platform, the most common shape covers only about a fifth of them. Codes made of two letters, digits and two closing letters are common, but so are long all-digit references. Paste whatever the seller gave you instead of trying to match it against a pattern.
There are two normal quiet stretches. The first is before departure, while the seller still has the parcel and the consolidator has not scanned it in, so there is nothing yet to report. The second and longer one is the international leg: once a parcel is loaded there may be nothing to scan until it lands and is presented to customs in your country, which on an economy service can mean a week or more of silence. Updates usually restart at customs clearance and again when a local company collects it for delivery. It is worth chasing only if your country has already logged an arrival and then nothing has moved for several days.
It depends on the service the seller chose, not on AliExpress itself. Cainiao, which runs AliExpress Standard Shipping, lists roughly 5–10 days for its Premium cross-border lanes, 10–18 days for Standard, and 20–45 days for the cheapest Economy services. Add the time before dispatch and any customs hold on top of that. Orders shipped from an AliExpress warehouse already inside your region arrive far sooner than the same item sent from China.
Not AliExpress, and often not the company named at checkout either. The cross-border leg is handled by a consolidator such as Cainiao or by a Chinese postal service, and near the end the parcel is passed to a delivery company inside your own country — the national post in many markets, a private courier in others. The closing events on the tracking name that local company, and it is the one that will actually turn up at your door.
Wait 24 to 48 hours first. The local company completing the final mile sometimes scans a parcel as delivered slightly ahead of the drop, and it may be with a neighbour, in a parcel locker, or in a building's mail room. If it still has not appeared, raise it with the seller through AliExpress rather than with the carrier: the seller is the carrier's customer of record, and AliExpress buyer protection runs through the order rather than through the tracking number.
